The first Hug-a-Bus was added to Saint John Transit’s fleet in February 2005. Premier Bernard Lord, Minister of the Environment Brenda Fowlie, Saint John Mayor Norm McFarlane and Transit Commission Chairman Chris Titus were among the first passengers. The low-entry Orion 7 bus, substantially funded by New Brunswick’s Environmental Trust Fund, is capable of using clean-burning diesel fuel. The unique graphics covering the bus feature a leafy tree embracing the vehicle, a gesture of thanks for helping to conserve energy while protecting the environment.
